Floral Facades – A Celebration of Places in Bloom
Holly on 7th May 2025
Imagine a world where gardens climb buildings, florals spill over rooftops, and nature becomes part of the architecture. That’s the spirit of Floral Facades — a collection of digitally painted prints that blend real locations with imaginative botanical overlays.
From iconic greenhouses to quiet garden paths, grand homes to coastal scenes, each artwork captures a place re-envisioned in bloom.
Where Real Places Meet Floral Fantasy
This isn’t just about city buildings — the collection travels far beyond. Every print begins with a real location, lovingly illustrated and brought to life through expressive mark-making and layered colour. Working digitally allows me to combine soft washes, textured lines, and delicate floral details, building each piece slowly like a garden in full season.
Here are a few of the places that inspired recent works:
-
Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh – A beloved green space reimagined in springtime splendour, where florals climb around the glasshouse like a living frame.
-
Great Dixter House & Gardens, East Sussex – A characterful historic house where bold blooms bring the Arts and Crafts architecture to life.
-
Kew Gardens, London – Iconic and elegant, the Palm House is softened with floral detail in pastel light.
-
La Coupée, Sark (Channel Islands) – A coastal walk like no other, made gentler still with wildflowers blowing in the breeze.
-
Kyoto Garden, Holland Park – A tranquil Japanese-style garden in West London, where cherry blossoms and quiet waters meet.
-
New Forest, Hampshire – Ponies roam the heathland, surrounded by soft greenery and a sense of freedom that echoes across the horizon.
These places span from Scotland to the Channel Islands, from historic homes to hidden city gardens — each transformed through floral overlays and atmospheric colour palettes that evoke memory and mood.
An Artistic Approach to Place
The collection is created using a variety of digital painting techniques that mimic hand-painted watercolour, but also allow for playful experimentation. Different marks — dots, lines, splashes, textured brushes — bring energy and variety to each piece, echoing the layers of nature itself.
It’s not just about how a place looks — it’s about how it feels. That moment when light filters through a greenhouse, or when wildflowers catch your eye on a coastal walk.
